Introducing the Tin Backsplash
Regardless of how neat and clean a cook you are, getting dirty splashes on the surrounding walls is inevitable. Most of the time people won't instantly wash it off unless a can of caramel exploded, leaving some rather spectacularly difficult to clean stains on the walls. What most people will find out when cleaning these stains is that since sometimes the food splashes leave permanent stains that have seeped into the tile. You can still remove the stain but expect to use some heavy duty acid based cleaner that may or may not end up etching your tiles and damaging them or worse. Thats why having a backsplash that is made from tin is so cool, not only because they last a lot longer than normal ceramic tiles, but also because its a lot easier to clean. Just using a mild detergent like dishwasher fluid and water is more than enough. If you're certain about where the splashes go, you can just get a backsplash plate that you can add on to your existing kitchen. Thanks to the wonder of Ikea and other home furnishing places its quite simple to drop by the shop and pick up an affordable plate that you can screw on by yourself. Granted, you should take some measurements of the back of your burner stove area first, just in case you get a plate that won't fit in between the table top counter and the overhead shelves. Most kits are fairly easy to use even if you'll probably need to do some drilling to get it in. These plates mainly cover the burner stove area but if you've got a bit more money to burn you can two or three and widen the area a bit. However, since Murphy's law of anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, very often applies to cooking and other things in the kitchen, its often a better idea to just get some backsplash panels which you can use as tiles on the back. If you've already got ceramic tiles, you may have to remove those first, but installing such tin backsplash panels is relatively easy, with a lot of guides and help already on the Internet. Most panels these days are quite elegant with very nice raised designs. Thankfully, they are also quite affordable with most places that sell them also offering free consultation and even installation. Installation for these backsplash panels is definitely not as time consuming as doing ceramic tile work as you can get these installed within a few hours, mainly because you can avoid the hassle of grouting and working with cement. |
